Welp, here we go!
Thursday, my dad and I went out on our first ride. We did ten miles. It was actually pretty easy. We went along the black water Creek trail and across Percival's Island and back (to any Lynchburgers following, that might make some sense...). Very flat, very easy going. It was a great way to start off and ease right into it.
Then Friday we did a killer route. I don't know how far it was but it was on a real road with real cars and REAL REALLY BIG HILLS! (actually, they were kind of wimpy, but they felt big to me!) The thing that was the hardest, however, was that I still don't have my shoes! I've got the clip pedals in and I'm wearing tennis shoes. The cage hits my big toes just right so that about 6 miles in I start to lose feeling in my foot, and then my leg, and then I freak out a little bit. So that's been quite the adventure.
Today we headed out to get a quick ride in before I had to go to work, but not two minutes after pulling the bikes out of the car, my dad had a flat! So we were forced to return home, exercise-less. I was a little bummed, but I admit, my feet were glad for the rest before another full shift tonight.
This biking thing sounds hard (and it is) but it's so fun. The hills hurt, but the literal rush of going down the other side is so rewarding. The weather is beautiful and it's nice to be out there, enjoying it while it lasts. I will probably eat these words when we're going 75 miles a day, not 10...
I guess it's official, we're actually going to attempt this! eek!
You go girl!!
